Sarah Michelle Gellar Reconsiders a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival

In a surprising (and mind-blowingly exciting) turn of events, the legendary Sarah Michelle Gellar, who famously portrayed Buffy Summers in the beloved TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has recently expressed openness to the idea of a revival. This marks a significant shift from her previous stance, where she firmly expressed hesitation about reviving the character once more — and to make the situation even more exciting, this newfound sentiment comes from a truly heartfelt place.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Gellar revealed that her change of heart was influenced by the successful reboots of other popular shows, such as Sex and the City and Dexter: Original Sin, in which she is currently starring. "It's funny. I always used to say no, because it's in its bubble, and it's so perfect," Gellar explained. "But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, 'Well, maybe.'"

However, Gellar now acknowledges that the world needs heroes more than ever, contributing to her suggestion that something Buffy-focused could still happen. "It could be anything," she said. "It's a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever."

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, which aired from 1997 to 2003, followed Buffy Summers, a teenage girl chosen to battle supernatural forces. The show was praised for its depiction of adolescence and the metaphorical representation of the horrors of growing up. By the time the series wrapped, Dark Horse Comics launched an official comic book continuation which ran for another five seasons. Still, there’s always been a longing for more in the Buffyverse, and this is just the glimmer of hope we desperately needed.

And as longtime BTVS aficionados — we have complete confidence that this could be something truly spectacular. Let’s make this one happen!
