Capcom Returns to the Ruins of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem Reveal Trailer
At Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom stunned fans by officially unveiling Resident Evil Requiem (a.k.a. Resident Evil 9)—the first mainline Resident Evil sequel since Resident Evil: Village—complete with a release date of February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The new trailer centers on FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft (an investigative reporter featured in Resident Evil Outbreak), and we couldn’t be more excited about this crossover moment for fans of the PS2 game. This time around, Grace returns to the ominous Remwood Hotel—the same site where her mother was killed eight years prior—to investigate a string of gruesome deaths tied to an unidentified pathogen.
The tense footage alternates between chilling flashbacks and terrifying present-day sequences, including plenty of classic Resident Evil horrors to enjoy. The trailer also reveals the long-awaited return to Raccoon City, now depicted as a bleak, post-nuclear wasteland—a setting unseen since Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and its remakes. Iconic locales like the dilapidated police station make a haunting comeback, while fans point to subtle clues suggesting the possible return of Lisa Trevor (or maybe a mutated Alyssa—or something entirely new, TBD).
Developed in Unreal-quality realism using Capcom’s RE Engine, the cinematic trailer promises hyper-realistic environments marked by bio-horrific imagery—melting flesh, distorted corpses, and grotesque mutations—all supported by lighting and ray-tracing that enhance its immersive quality.
Directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously steered Resident Evil 7, Requiem emphasizes a return to the franchise’s survival-horror roots by blending claustrophobic environments and slow-burning dread with moments of intense action. Capcom has also confirmed that a playable demo will launch at Gamescom 2025 (August 20–24), offering an early hands-on experience
With the reveal trailer concluding its grand entrance at Summer Game Fest, fans have much to unpack: a promising heroine with personal stakes, a restored yet ravaged Raccoon City, and the return of signature, chilling horrors. Watch the reveal trailer for Resident Evil Requiem below.
